EDUCATION

You may ask the question: 1) What is education and 2) Why do I need it?  Let’s try to answer it in a very simplified manner.

WHAT IS IT?

Education encompasses teaching (to facilitate) and learning (acquisition and development of) specific skills, and also something less tangible but more profound: the imparting of knowledge and well-developed wisdom.

Let’s explore education a little more in terms of the above definition

Education has as one of its fundamental aspects the imparting of culture from generation to generation.  Culture has been called “the way of life for an entire society”.  As such it includes codes of manners, dress, language, religion, rituals; and norms of behavior such as law and morality, and systems of belief.

WHY DO I NEED IT?

The word “education” derives from the Latin educare, meaning “to nourish” or “to raise” as some may say.  The word, nourish is a verb: which means to promote the growth of, to furnish or sustain with nutriment.

Therefore in order to grow, we (adults, parents, and children) need it.    As parents, guardians, etc, we are commanded to nourish our children.

Train up a child in the way he should go and when

he is old, he will not depart from it.    Proverbs 22:6

The Word also tells us that:

My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge;  Hosea 4:6a

There is a blessing in it for YOU!!!

That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without;

and that ye may have lack of nothing.    1 Timothy 4:12
